My name is Barka Ramesh. I studied Law and Political Science. I am an entrepreneur and work to empower women. I was born in Faryab Province and now live in Jowzjan Province. I have worked in programs to prevent harassment of women at work, support commissions against violence toward women, and teach at the Faculty of Islamic Studies at Barlas University. I also manage finances and administration at a private institute and currently serve as a provincial officer at WJO. For many years, I have been active in social, legal, and economic programs for women. I always try to use my knowledge to help women and girls in Afghanistan.
I live with my family. One of my biggest motivations for starting a business is to create a better future for Afghan women and girls so that they can earn their own income.
Because of economic and social challenges, I decided to start my own business. I founded Artin Mart – Women’s Unity of Jowzjan in my home so that women can work safely, independently, and turn their skills into income. Today, these women can earn money to cover their basic needs.
In 2024, she founded Artin Mart – Women’s Unity of Jawzjan, a brand that produces and exports high-quality handmade products. Despite a limited budget, the brand has achieved remarkable success, including:
Export of traditional Afghan “Gand” to the USA, Canada, and the UK
Our products include sewing, embroidery, traditional clothing, handicrafts, rugs, home decorations, and custom orders. My goal is to help women work from home, earn money, and become independent.
Currently, more than 30 women work with me in sewing, embroidery, and sales. We want to grow this network even more.
I want to create a safe workplace for women, grow home-based businesses, support women without guardians, and expand exports of Afghan women’s products. I believe every woman can become financially independent if she has the right opportunities and support.
