Tamana Shams, the founder of Karga of Tailoring and Baby set sewing of Banowan Shams in Jowzjan province, established her business in 2021 with a mission to empower women and create sustainable income sources for herself and other vulnerable women. Her enterprise specializes in crafting a variety of handmade products, including baby sleeping sets, mosquito nets, portable gas bags, travel bags, and more.

What sets Tamana’s products apart is the use of high-quality, unique cotton patchwork designs that add both beauty and durability. Her small team of 8 dedicated women artisans brings these creations to life with care and creativity.

Despite facing challenges such as limited access to raw materials, lack of equipment, and a narrow market, Banowan Shams remains hopeful. Their ultimate goal is to expand her brand throughout all provinces of Afghanistan and eventually to international markets, showcasing Afghan women’s skills and resilience through quality craftsmanship.
