Vendor Biography

Fariha Barakzai is one of the pioneering and successful women in the field of business and handicrafts in Afghanistan—a woman who, with more than 20 years of work experience and continuous effort, has built a bright and inspiring path for Afghan women and girls. She was born in District 7 of Kabul city, in the Chilstoon area, and completed her school education at Sultan Razia High School in 1993.

With the escalation of war, Fariha Barakzai migrated to Pakistan with her family. However, this migration did not stop her; instead, it became the beginning of a new chapter in her professional journey. With passion and determination, she learned the craft of tailoring, and after completing her training, she purchased several sewing machines and took the first steps toward establishing her own independent business.

After returning to Afghanistan, Fariha continued her activities more seriously and officially launched her business in 2015. Today, she is the owner of the “Herfawi Zanane Sanatpesha” company in Kabul—a production center where high-quality items such as shoes, handbags, sarpataloni, shawls, scarves, and handmade children’s products are created.

In this center, 12 women and 15 men work directly. By creating such opportunities, Fariha has played a significant role in empowering women—including women with disabilities, women in need, and girls who have been deprived of schooling.

On a personal level, Fariha Barakzai is married and the mother of five children. Alongside her family responsibilities, she has pursued her business journey with perseverance, creativity, and strong determination.

Today, Fariha Barakzai is recognized as a symbol of hard work, hope, and entrepreneurship among Afghan women—a woman who stood firm in the face of challenges, created opportunities, and now inspires a new generation of women in the country. Her larger goal is to further expand her business and continue serving the women of Afghanistan, especially those in need and women of determination.
