My name is Arefa Shahidani, I am 29 years old and hold a 14th-grade diploma in Dari Language and Literature. Before the regime change, I worked as a teacher in girls’ schools. Afterward, I changed my career path and now I am the Head of Ellag Gallery.
Ellag Gallery produces a variety of handmade items, including Khamak embroidery, beadwork, and a production line for humanitarian aid clothing. Currently, about 25 women work with me directly and indirectly. Our main activities are based in Bamyan province, and we also have a representative branch in Kabul.
I started this work to overcome unemployment and health challenges. Today, my goal is to introduce Afghan women’s handicrafts to the world and bring the authentic art of Afghan women to international markets.
