Gulfroz Ghafoori Fitrat, daughter of Abdul Ghafour, was born in 1988 in Ghor province, Afghanistan. After graduating from Sultan Razia High School in 2009, she was elected as a member of the Ghor Provincial Council with broad public support. During her tenure, she served in key positions, including Secretary of the Council, Head of the Monitoring Committee, and Head of the Anti-Corruption Committee. She was also a member of the High Peace Council of Afghanistan, where she contributed to local peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and the promotion of dialogue.
Alongside her political responsibilities, she co-founded the Noorsafa Coordination and Reconstruction Organization, which actively worked on women’s empowerment, raising awareness about women’s rights, combating child marriage, and establishing networks of capable women across districts. She completed her higher education in English Literature at Ghor University and, between 2016 and 2019, worked on EU-funded social peace projects aimed at reducing tensions, fostering peace, and strengthening civic engagement.
In 2017, she founded an agricultural company focused on saffron cultivation and processing. Through her membership in the Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Western Zone, she played a key role in promoting women’s economic participation. In 2021, she established Tanposh Modern, a production workshop that has since grown to employ more than 28 women in the design and production of traditional and modern Afghan clothing. The same year, she was appointed as a board member of the Women’s Chamber of Commerce, and in 2023 she was elected as its First Vice President.
In 2025, with financial support from UNDP, she launched the “Local Kitchens” project in Bamyan province. The initiative provided hot meals to 300 families and created four food-processing centers, which not only generated employment but also trained women in food packaging, hygiene, and collective kitchen management.
